Christmas especially, is such a wonderful time of year to bring legends and stories to life. Wanting to throw a party for 5 very special girls, I knew a Sugar Plum Fairy theme would be perfect for these imaginative little ladies - Bailynn, Isobel, Arwyn, Lila & Naomi (aren't their names gorgeous!)
First, I created a new collection of printables which you can now buy in my Etsy shop, JoElle Elise Designs
Then, I hijacked my parent's dining room to set the stage - be careful if you ever have me for Thanksgiving dinner, while stuffing my face I might just find your home to be the perfect setting for my next photoshoot!
Thankfully, they are used to my methods - gave me a glass of wine and let me go to town. My step-mom Debbie even made cupcakes.
Using vintage chenille throws and yard sale dishes we created a vintage old-world look. My "tacky" white ceramic Christmas tree even made an appearance - purchased it for a dollar over the summer. I accessorized with Dollar Tree snowflakes and glassware. I just love that place!
Sticking with a color palette of frosted plum, blush pink and gold helped to give it just the wintry look I wanted complete with an appearance by my very handsome nutcracker and lovely Sugar Plum Fairy.
Of course, no fairy party would be complete without a Wand Creation Station! The girls had a great time bedazzling their fairy wands and casting spells on one another. Even my little Colette got into the spirit of the party, albeit it was more centered around sneaking Cupcakes than glitter.
Thank you to my step-mom for the fabulous desserts, my sister Mandy for lugging and hanging decorations (on a Friday night when all she wanted to do was relax and watch a movie) and my Dad for handing me that glass of wine.
After all the work, my only hope is that the girls hold this as a memory of a beautiful Christmas afternoon filled with magic.
How do you breathe magic into Christmas? I'd love to know!
